Who’s Eligible

You can enrol yourself and your dependants in most benefit plans, but you must meet the eligibility requirements.

If you’re a full-time Team Member

(working an average of 32 hours or more per week)

  • You are eligible the 1st of the month following 60 days of employment.

If you change from part-time to full-time

  • You are eligible the 1st of the month following 60 days of full-time service.
  • For example: If you change from part-time to full-time on June 10, you are eligible for coverage on September 1, which is the 1st of the month following 60 days of full-time service.

You may also enrol eligible dependants who are residents of Canada:

Your Spouse/Partner

Your spouse by marriage or under any other formal union recognized by law, or your partner of the same or opposite sex who has been publicly represented as your spouse for at least 12 consecutive months.

Note for Quebec residents: There is no minimum cohabitation period for common-law spouses if a child is born out of the relationship.

Your Children

Coverage is available if they are your dependant children or your spouse’s children (other than foster children), they are not married or in any other formal union recognized by law and they are under 21. A child who is a full-time student attending a recognized educational institution is also considered an eligible dependant until the age of 25 (26 in Quebec for Extended Health only) as long as the child is entirely dependant on you for financial support.

Your Handicapped Children

If a child becomes handicapped before the limiting age (21 or 25 if attending school full-time), coverage will continue as long as he or she is incapable of financial self-support because of a physical or mental disability, depends on you for financial support and is not married or in any other formal union recognized by law.

Choose Wisely — No Changes After Enroling!

Changes are only allowed outside of your initial enrolment if you have a qualifying life event, such as a birth, adoption, marriage or divorce. Changes must be made within 60 days of the qualifying life event. If you do not enrol within 60 days of the qualifying life event, you may be required to complete a Statement of Health. The change will not be retroactive and will only be effective the date your Statement of Health is approved.
